As a wedding photographer, chasing perfect light is everything, and there is a unique kind of magic found beneath the canopy of Vancouver’s old-growth forests. Just steps away from the historic Stanley Park Pavilion, we found the perfect, secluded grove for Stephanie & Perry’s first look.
Away from the hustle of the wedding timeline, the woods offered a quiet, intimate space for the couple to share their first moments together. Documenting that raw emotion, surrounded by towering cedars and beautifully filtered PNW light was an absolute dream. It served as a grounded, peaceful start to a high-energy day, resulting in some of the most timeless, romantic portraits of the entire gallery.
One of the greatest advantages of shooting a wedding at Stanley Park Pavilion is the sheer variety of backdrops right in its backyard. For the portrait session, we went on a mini-adventure around the park to capture three entirely distinct aesthetics, proving why this location is an absolute playground for creative photography.
We started at the Rose Garden for a classic, elegant vibe. The manicured paths and vibrant, blooming florals brought an injection of colour and traditional romance to the gallery. Next, we headed out to the coast to catch the sweeping ocean horizons and wide-open skies. The salty breeze added a beautiful, cinematic element of movement to the frames. We wrapped up the session by exploring the venue itself. The historic architecture, large heritage windows, and warm indoor spaces provided a sophisticated, editorial contrast to the outdoor nature shots.
The celebration kicked off with a breathtaking ceremony on the Pavilion’s lush outdoor lawn, surrounded by manicured hedges and sun-drenched trees. The emotion stayed high as guests moved inside the historic ballroom for a reception filled with candlelit tables, heartfelt speeches, and an atmosphere that was warm and elegant.
But the defining moment of the night happened just when everyone thought the evening was winding down. Without warning, the music shifted and the couple, alongside their bridal party launched into a completely unexpected, fully choreographed surprise flash dance. The ballroom floor was practically shaking, and the energy in the room went through the roof. Capturing the pure shock, laughter, and absolute hype on the guests’ faces was the ultimate high-octane conclusion to an unforgettable wedding day.
